Loddiswell

Loddiswell InnA ten minute stroll down the lane takes you into the quintessentially English village of Loddiswell. Loddiswell has managed to remain both unspoilt and lively. It has a well-stocked village shop selling all the essentials, papers and quality local food (the sausages from Aune Valley Meats in Loddiswell make an excellent breakfast!). It also rents out DVDs if you can’t find anything to your taste in the cottage.

The cosy and friendly Loddiswell Inn opposite the shop serves excellent lunch time and evening meals on most days (you’ll need to book in peak season). The village also boasts a separate Post Office that doubles as a DIY and ‘odds and ends’ shop, a church, a primary school and a playground on the playing fields.

If you want to explore the beautiful countryside around Loddiswell more fully, the ‘Pint to Pint’ book in the cottage details a 5 mile circular walk starting from the Loddiswell Inn and finishing just down the lane from the cottage. The route takes you down into the valley and along the River Avon for a while, past the old Loddiswell railway station (old photos of which can be found in the ‘Book of Loddiswell’ in the cottage). If you time it right, you can pause for a cream tea at the Avon Mill garden centre en route.
